Boxer David Haye is going to battle a UFC fighter – but not before a rematch with Bellew

It’s been confirmed that Brit boxer David Haye will step in the ring next year against UFC star ‘Poster Boy’ Jimi Manuwa.

Haye was last seen in the ring during his plucky defeat in March to Tony Bellew, after a nasty achilles injury made it pretty much impossible for him to fight.

It seems Connor McGregor fighting ‘Money’ Mayweather has seriously set a new trend. We wonder what could be the deciding factor for these PPV record setting cross-promotions? $$$.

Haye talked to the London based Manuwa at the mixed martial arts event BAMMA 31 and the pair settled on the fight, which is set to take place next year.

Manuwa said the following to MMAuno:

“The fight is on. I want it, he wants it. He says he has to fight a couple more fights before we are going to do it.”

“It’ll be the beginning of next year, by the end of the middle of next year.”

Before getting his gloves on the UFC fighter, vegan heavyweight Haye will have another battle of Britain with scouser Bellew, it’s looking like Sunday December 17 is favourite for the much anticipated rematch. Despite losing the first fight ‘The Hayemaker’ took home 4.2 million from the purse, so no surprise round two is very much on the cards.

Manuwa and Haye might not be the only MMA fighters and Boxer’s to throw hands in the near future. There’s been a suggestion that world heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua might consider switching disciplines to teach some of the fighters calling him out a lesson, UFC champ Stipe Miocic being one of them. Tony Bellew himself has also had a little war of words with British UFC star Michael Bisping. He’s gone on record stating that he’s happy to trade blows in the middle of a boxing ring or a cage.

It seems McGregor and Mayweather’s record payday has put the pound signs in pugilist eyes and when there’s big money at stake promoters will be chomping at the bit to setup the next cash filled contest.

In other boxing news, if all that isn’t random enough for you, 38 year old former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand has just announced that he is taking up professional boxing! He’s a huge boxing fan and is regularly seen attending all the big events, but stepping inside the ring? Good luck to you Rio. You might need it.
