Buying the perfect gift is a challenge at the best of times, be it Christmas, Birthdays or Weddings. Well Sunday 18th June happens to be Father’s Day, so no pressure! To give you a nudge in the right direction The MALESTROM has touched base with some of our favourite brands to bring you the hottest suggestions straight off the production line.

Whether your old man is the outdoorsy type, a music lover or simply enjoys putting his feet up in the conservatory and getting stuck into a good book, then you’re in the right place. We’ve made it simple, and if you follow our advice you’ll be winning child of the year, or at least some solid brownie points. Pops will definitely appreciate the absence of the usual novelty socks this Father’s Day. Don’t hang around get onto these beauties.

1. ‘Made of Margate’ Exfoliating Seaweed Block from HAECKELS – £18 (300g)

By giving your Dad a block of soap are you saying he’s a stinker who could do with a good wash? Maybe, but this product isn’t your usual Imperial Leather, it’s an exfoliating seaweed block. This vegan friendly bar leaves your skin ‘smooth, clean & refreshed’, so surely he’ll appreciate that.

There’s not many musos out their who don’t appreciate the genius of The Beatles and with the 50th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band just taken place what better time than to re-listen to one of their all time classic albums. This reissue includes new stereo edits of tracks and on the deluxe versions you even get unreleased complete takes of the record’s 13 songs.

3. Iron Maiden Limited edition Zippo lighter – from £26.45

The MALESTROM wants to say we’re not advocating sparking up, but do feel a Zippo lighter is a must for every chap. We bet cavemen would have killed for one of these beauties, forget rubbing sticks together when you can get a flame from a satisfying flick. Even better this one comes with three different limited edition Iron Maiden designs, so if your Dad’s a rocker he’ll be holding his up in the air to strains of ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name.’

4. Limited Edition Lee Malia Explorer Custom Artisan Outfit guitar from Epiphone

Ok so this beast of a guitar may not be available to buy till August and it’s not going to be cheap, but it’s just so freakin’ rock and roll we couldn’t help but include it in our edit. Epiphone have excelled themselves here, in their collab with Lee Malia, lead guitarist of Brit metalcore band Bring Me The Horizon. The axe has a walnut finish, Gibson pick-ups and a super heavy sound. It’ll be a tantalising wait till its release but promise pops one of these and you’ll be the most popular of all the offspring.

5. Mast Brothers Vanilla & Smoke Chocolate from Liberty of London – £7.95

New York brothers Rick and Michael Mast know a thing or two about chocolate. In fact they’d probably be the first to admit they’re obsessives. They’re also big on unique flavours and this vanilla and smoke combo is super tasty but with a bit of a blokey tinge thrown in to boot.

6. Fermentation Starter Kit from reCAP – £24.99

Foodie Dads will get a kick out of this kit. Fermented foods are big right now and this starter set includes includes all the kit your old man will need to get that sauerkraut recipe on the go, in fact did you know, you can pickle just about anything! Fermented foods are super good for gut health which is excellent news for a happily functioning Dad bod.

7. Seaside Print A2 Graphic poster from Present & Correct – £50

If your Father has an eye for art he’ll appreciate this striking graphic A2 print inspired by boats and the Scottish seaside. It’s the kind of mature, intelligent present that will perfectly illustrate what a well rounded, thoughtful and considerate adult you’ve grown up to be. Yeah right!

Given it’s Bike Week we couldn’t help but include this little gem. It’s a collection of inspiring and philosophical thoughts about cycling from those who write and ride. Filled with lovely illustrations and black and white photos if this books on your coffee table on a lazy Sunday it might just give you that boost to get in the saddle and get a ride in.

9. Maxtek Boom Box from ALDI – £29.99

Cassette tapes! Back from the dead! They certainly are, and what better way to listen to them than on an old school early 90s style Boom Box. This updated model comes with Bluetooth streaming and USB & SD card ports for the digital Dad, but also a slot for tapes. 10. Bucket Barbecue from SCP – £27

Forget taking a bucket and spade down the beach, take one of these BBQ beauties instead. What’s to say? It’s a bucket you fill with coals and use to cook your food, simple, functional, portable, brilliant.
