The MALESTROM Latest Movie News

Like our many readers we here at The MALESTROM HQ get rather carried away with the latest movie news and rumour-mongering, which is why there’s nothing quite like the sweet taste of confirmation that your favourite stars are signed on for one more run as those iconic characters or your favourite director has decided to take on another perfect project rather than cashing in by helming that lame kids film just so his children can watch one of his films. There’s plenty going on in Tinseltown this week, we start with some super exciting movie news for those partial to a bit of 80s/90s nostalgia.

Bill & Ted Face the Music

It’s been in the rumour mill for what seems like forever, that a followup to 1991’s Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey might one day happen. Well better late than never, a mere 27 years later that is, news hot out of Cannes tells us that Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are set to reprise their roles as Ted Theodore Logan and Bill S Preston Esq in their very long awaited third film titled “Bill and Ted Face the Music.” What we know of the plot will find the now middle-aged Wyld Stallyns burdened by family responsibilities, and even worse of all, after years of trying they still haven’t written their fabled “greatest song ever.” But when an unexpected visitor from the future tells them the world literally depends on it, they’re forced to go on another journey through time to make the music happen. With a script from the original creators and our favourite frontmen back together at last we’re hoping the results will be most excellent.

Cus Damato with a young Mike Tyson

Regular MALESTROM readers will know we’re very keen on all things boxing, so when we heard Bruce Willis had just signed on to star in the upcoming drama Cornerman we had to share the news straightaway. Set against the backdrop of 1980s New York, Willis is set to play legendary boxing trainer Cus D’Amato, the man responsible for discovering and developing a young Mike Tyson into becoming the baddest man on the planet. The 13-year old ‘Iron’ Mike is yet to be cast, hopefully whoever takes on the role is up to the task of filling those big gloves.

Exciting movie news for anyone who enjoyed last year’s brilliant Get Out. The film’s Oscar winning director for Best Original Screenplay, Jordan Peele, is set to return to something in a similar vein to his smash hit debut. Little is know about the new project Us in terms of themes, all we have is the poster’s message that the movie will be “A New Nightmare from the Mind of Academy Award Winner Jordan Peele.” So we can expect to be watching from behind our hands again. The cast rumours swirling round currently have Black Panther’s Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke in talks to star as well as Elisabeth Moss. We’ll bring you more when we hear it. Us opens on March 15, 2019.

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood

At the start of March we brought you the news that Tarantino’s new film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was getting it’s A-list cast in order in the shape of Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio. We also mentioned about the whisper that I Tonya star Margot Robbie was rumoured to be taking part in the movie playing Sharon Tate. Well rumour no longer as it’s been confirmed that Robbie will portray the late actress wife of Roman Polanski who’s life was brutally taken in 1969 when she was murdered by the Manson family. The movie is set to be released in August, 2019.

The Predator

Now we’re never ones to advocate meddling with our favourite 80s action movies, but when a reinvention is done well we like to give props where due. From the first teaser trailer below director Shane Black seems to have done just that with The Predator. The plot sees our favourite heat seeking alien crash land on earth after a young boy accidentally triggers one of their beacons (nice work kid). And the bad boy in the title is deadlier than ever after a DNA upgrade. Can a disgruntled science teacher and a bunch of ex-soldiers prevent the end of the human race? It’s Hollywood so we’d hope so, but it looks like it’ll be a fun ride finding out. Check out the teaser.
