An Artistic Endeavour: A Celebration of Stop Motion Animation

There’s something inherently magical about stop motion animation, transforming inanimate objects into something far greater than the sum of their parts.

In this short film Stems so-called because it was made in reverse, taking stems from a track of music before creating the characters to perform that sound, like a ragtag band of junkyard misfits, is a seriously time-consuming undertaking, 6 months to be exact. The process may be painstaking, but the result is a work of art.

Laboriously created by Bafta-winning director and animator Ainslee Harrison in collaboration with musician Poppy Ackroyd who delivered the score, Stems is a triumph in stop motion animation and a truly life-enhancing short filmic experience. One man’s trash and all that.
