Costumes, Comics & Capers at the DC: Dawn of Super Heroes Exhibition

Batman comic from DC: Dawn of Super Heroes

Superheroes have never been bigger business than right now. Black Panther is currently smashing box office records since its opening and the waves of comic book film adaptations based around their larger than life heroes and villains, such as Tom Hardy’s upcoming Venom, continue to roll in without any signs of letting up.

This week London’s O2 opens its doors to a one-of-a-kind exhibition that will have superhero fans salivating. DC Exhibition: Dawn of Super Heroes is a treasure trove for any enthusiasts of caped crusaders, men of steel and everyone in between as it features over 200 original comic pages and some incredible concept art from many of your favourite films.

Perhaps most exciting of all are the 45 original costumes, models and props on display from a number of iconic DC movies. It’s your chance to get up close to the Superman costume from 78′ that Christopher Reeve wore.

You can also see many of the different incarnations of Batman outfits over the years (including Clooney’s infamous nippled Batsuit!). And a host of the villains The Dark Night took on including both Jokers, Bane, Catwoman, The Penguin, Mr Freeze and many more.

The Exhibition showcases almost a century of artistic creations that followed the introduction of an innovative new genre imagined by two adolescents from Cleveland, Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel, the creators of Superman. First introduced in Action Comics #1 in 1938, Superman, the world’s first Super Hero, quickly revolutionised the era, his caped influence permeating art, literature, fashion, TV and film.

There’s plenty more for bat fans in the exhibition with early looks at the character Bob Kane & Bill Finger created as ‘the Bat-Man’ for DC (“Detective Comics”) off the back of Superman’s success, as well as covers and original drawings from other favourite comics like The Brave and the Bold’s Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and The Justice League of America.
