Chris Hemsworth Signs up to Netflix’s Hulk Hogan Biopic

Netflix's new Hulk Hogan biopic to star Chris Hemsworth

What you gonna do brother? What you gonna do when Chris Hemsworth runs wild on you! Yes, the news just in is that Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth has signed up to play wrestling legend who is Hulk Hogan in a new Netflix biopic.

Director Todd Phillips, currently working on the upcoming Joker movie will helm the project which he’s also co-writing with Scott Siver who scripted The Joker.

12 time World Champion Hogan is one of the biggest names in wrestling history and was a huge draw as part of the World Wrestling Federation in the 80s and early 90s before later moving to other grappling companies WCW and TNA. The last couple of decades have seen the Hulkster in the press for battles outside of the ring.

He was embroiled in a sex tape scandal with the wife of a friend and involved in a long-running lawsuit that ended celebrity website Gawker. In 2015 recordings of him making racist remarks emerged that saw him banished from WWE, who he had a relationship with at the time, after years of trying to make right he’s since been back on television with the company.

The Netflix biopic will not delve into those murkier years but will rather focus on his early days in what’s being described as “an origin story of the Hulkster and Hulkamania.” Hogan, real name Terry Bollea will Exec Produce the project and act as a consultant. Bradley Cooper is also named as a producer.

It’s a busy summer for Hemsworth with two big pictures starring the Aussie hitting cinemas. Not least the huge, final Avengers movie, Avengers: Endgame Men in Black: International he’ll also be featuring in Netflix action drama Dhaka.

Chris should do alright here, as Thor he’s got a bit of previous with dealing with Hulk, although a greener even more muscular one. Here’s a classic Hogan promo with the late great Mean Gene, let’s hope Hemsworth can bring this level of intensity to the role. Although he might need to take his vitamins and say his prayers first…
