Time for an Upgrade: The MALESTROM Watch Guide

A black swatch watch with a sliver face

Every man craves a beautiful timepiece on his wrist, it’s the male equivalent of a diamond necklace, and while a broken watch will be right twice a day, it’s not enough to ensure you make that important meeting on time or find yourself stuck in a situation where every second counts.

No there’s never a bad time to upgrade, and with summer now becoming more than a faint memory, it’s as good a time as any to invest with some great value for money watches currently on offer.

We’ve put together a watch guide after careful consultation with our good friends at WatchShop to bring you some of our favourite pieces currently on the market, that won’t cost the earth but more than keep their end of the bargain in the style stakes.

Nixon The Safari Leather – £140

A classic Nixon watch with tanned leather strap

Top of the tree in our watch guide, the good people at Nixon have been churning classic wrist dwellers since their first foray into the market in the mid-nineties. Consistency has been the key and The Safari is right on message.

The clean lines you see here are designed for getting dirty. Inspired by vintage off-trail vehicles – think the classic Land Rover Defender – this timepiece features a 43mm case, three-hand movement, a knurled crown, hardened mineral crystal and tapered custom leather strap. It’s got us feeling all manly!

Swatch Bleu De Bienne – £92

A Swatch watch with silver rim and bright blue face and strap

This typically vibrant looking Swatch chronograph piece stands out with its navy blue dial with three sub-dials and superluminova hands.

That’s some bright hands right there. It’s presented on a structured navy blue silicone strap, that’ll see more than a brief admiring glance from onlookers while offering a splash of colour to any outfit.

Smart Turnout Town Watch Set – £90

A black watch face with multicoloured strap

This is the perfect summer watch, imagine yourself sipping a glass of Pimm’s by the river while regaling friends about the fact that you saved a whopping 135 quid on your new purchase.

Yes, this stainless steel cased, multicoloured timepiece is a certified bargain and the best value in this watch guide. Features include (among others) a date function and 50 metres water resistance, perfect for if your mates have had enough of the gloating!

Unisex Lacoste Watch – £70

A bright turquoise coloured watch

Lacoste makes awesome, timeless polo shirts, but did you know they make equally stylish watches? This stainless steel number with a blue dial is his or hers, so you might want to be careful leaving it lying around the bathroom, or your missus might just snaffle this beauty up into her own collection. You’ll need to move quickly, there’s only limited availability on this one.

Mens Swatch Silver Glam Watch – £54.00

A black swatch watch with silver face

Ok, we’re fans of Swatch no doubt, we’re not going to lie about this. It’s a brand that oozes nostalgia a bit like the retro CASIO calculator range. This classy and handsome looking fella from their New Gent collection provides serious value for money.

A comfortable black rubber strap perfectly contrasts the stunning silver dial that gives it an exquisite expensive looking finish, and of course, it’s water resistant, Mr Bond.
