A Short Film about Amateur Boxing Coach Jerry Mitchell

Jerry Mitchell is one of the most respected amateur boxing coaches in the game. After a 31 fight career of his own, he retired at the modest age of 27 and ever since he has spent his every spare moment coaching the next generation of fighters at Islington Boxing Club. Having been responsible for guiding many national champions, he continues to impart his wisdom on the young men seeking guidance and opportunity.

This short film Hands Up, Chin Down which lasts the exact length of a round of boxing is described as a conceptual study of the coaching process with its strange mix of brutality and care and premiered at the Sheffield Doc/Fest 2018. It’s certainly well worth a watch, especially for fans of the fight game.
